What We Do
The Lakeshore Particular Council (LPC) is comprised of eight conferences, from Courtice to Brighton. They report directly to the Ontario Council and attend quarterly meetings ( often through zoom ) held around the province. The LPC is responsible for providing money, furniture, clothing, mattresses etc, to the conferences. Lakeshore Particular Council also helps bring new issues and programs to the attention of the conferences, assist in advertising major events, discuss changing social issues and act as a resource guide for members in the conferences.
In addition, the Lakeshore Particular Council operates and is responsible for all aspects of the St. Vincent de Paul Value Store in Bowmanville; employees, volunteers, customers, sales, insurance and many other things. If we are fortunate enough each month to make a small profit we help fund the following:
- Youth scholarships for post secondary education
- Twinning with other conferences around the world who are less fortunate than us
- Emergency payments for heat, hydro or rent in order to avoid eviction
- Partnerships with other community organizations to assist with housing, medical bills and Christmas hampers
- Advocacy in alerting people about such things as child tax credits, free legal help, disability pensions and housing
- Clothing for summer and winter along with boots, hats, gloves from our store in Bowmanville
- Food essentials through vouchers, food banks that we support and meals that we partner with other organizations to provide
